Recently, the General Office of the State Council officially replied to the People's Government of Sichuan Province about agreeing to upgrade Qingbaijiang Economic Development Zone, Chengdu, Sichuan to a national economic and technological development zone and rename it Chengdu International Railway Port Economic Development Zone.

　　According to information, the development zone is located in the northeast core area of Chengdu economic circle, as an important node for the integrated development of Chengdu and Chongqing. The planned area of the development zone totals 12.24 square kilometers, involving Qingbaijiang District and Jintang County. The development zone consists of three industrial functional areas, namely, Chengdu International Railway Port, Qingbaijiang European Industrial City and Jintang Huaizhou New Town.

　　The development zone is adjacent to the largest central station of railway containers in Asia. The central station now has a handling capacity of nearly one million TEUs and a designed handling capacity of four million TEUs, leading the nationwide inland stations; Chengdu International Railway Port Comprehensive Bonded Zone has designated ports for complete vehicles, meat and grain and a timber supervision area.

　　Meanwhile, as a main channel for China to open to the west and a bridgehead of Asia-Europe international trade logistics, Chengdu Qingbaijiang Railway Port Area is one of the three parts of China (Sichuan) Pilot Free Trade Zone; in the future, the northern part of Chengdu will rely on the international railway port to build an international railway port grand port area, and interconnect with Qingbaijiang, Xindu, Jintang, Pengzhou, Guanghan, Zhongjiang and other places with the railway port as the core to form a high-level coordinated development area and facilitate the circulation of regional integration elements.

　　According to the previous reports by Sichuan media, it is the ninth approved national economic development zone in Sichuan Province. The previous eight ones include the economic technological development zones in Chengdu, Mianyang, Guangyuan, Neijiang, Suining, Deyang and Guang'an and Yibin Lingang Economic and Technological Development Zone.
